It is important to remember that when you write an article which is intended for web distribution, you have to provide valuable information to the reader.
Many people are able to say a lot of things by using just a few words while others require long excerpts to express the same idea. Regardless of your writing style, providing valuable information should be your top priority.
No one wants to read an article which has no value, and even more importantly, people who look for information (students, researchers, etc) won’t be interested on sales letters.
Now that we understand the main priority when it comes to article distribution we can establish that an optimal article is 450-750 words long.
Many sites have stopped receiving articles which don’t reach the 400 word mark at the very least. The reason behind such action is simple and can be summarized in one word: “spam”.
While you may have a good yet short article, article sites receive tons of short articles (100-399 words long) which turn out to be spam. They are usually uncategorized and shallow, they offer no benefit to the reader and are distributed with the sole purpose of link building.
On the other hand, you don’t want your article to be over 1000 words since a considerable amount of sites wont accept them. Many of these “long articles” turn out to be a great source of information and can become very popular. So if you have a long article you can cut it in several parts to meet the 1000 word restriction.
An example would be:
Article word count - Part 1
Article word count - Part 2
Article word count - Part 3
If your article is compelling and has valuable information you will receive great traffic from it because readers will want more information about the things you have to offer.
